Southern Cancer Center’s “Bread Bites” series shares weekly words of encouragement and inspiration from local area churches. This week’s message is from Pastor Chad Price of Forest Hill Church of God in Mobile, AL.

Pastor Chad-
2021 is here. Fresh and unblemished. New and exciting. Scary and uncertain. There are tons of adjectives we could use to describe the way we feel about 2021. I want to encourage you today, no matter where you fall on that spectrum. The Word of God is full of encouragement for uncertain times, for newness and the unknown. Today I want to draw your attention to Psalms 143:8 where it says; “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.”

Let’s look at this verse for just a few moments. First of all, it begins, “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love…” What is morning? Morning is the dawn- the day break. Morning is the start of something brand new, much like this new year. In this new year, my prayer is this: I am reminded of my Lord’s great faithfulness and love for me. That I can break open His word and see written on the pages His love poured out. That I will see the sun breaking through clouds and trees and feel gentle breezes and know, with surety, that my Creator loves and cares for me. I pray the same for you.

“…For I have put my trust in YOU.” Let the knowledge of His great love for you give you confidence to trust Him. There are a lot of voices in this world- let His be the voice you train your ear to hear above all others. Seek it. Follow it. It will not fail you.

“Show me the way I should go…” If there’s one thing a new year brings, it’s uncertainty. A blank page. Fresh decisions yet unmade. How about this year, instead of jumping into things without consulting the Lord, you tried asking His guidance and direction? Instead of making a decision and then asking God to bless that decision, how about you ask His opinion FIRST and THEN make a decision. How many times have you grown weary and frustrated because you feel you’re striving to make life “work?” It’s not a magic formula, but I can definitely ensure that a life lead by the One who knows you better than you know yourself will be much more fruitful than the contrary. Ask. Seek. Knock. THEN, act.

“…for to You I entrust my life.” In 2021, surrender. Don’t just let Him be your savior. Let Him be your Lord. Let Him be master. If He can design an entire universe, create all living things and put together the complexity and perfection of the human body, then He can definitely handle your life. And what’s more, He WANTS to! He wants you to trust Him. He longs for it. What do you have to lose? Trust Him and offer him authority in your life- let Him inform your decision making and your actions this new year and see if you can’t say when 2022 is coming around, “I have tasted and seen the Lord is GOOD!” (Psalm 34:8)
